50+ calls for journalism/writing pitches (Aug 15, 2022)
Quarantine was hell. Or at least, it started like hell, and then, worryingly, it felt less hellish. I was stuck in a cramped room for seven straight days, eating beige food from a black plastic tray, commanded to twirl an elongated cue-tip up my nose every day and leave the test results on the chair, barred from leaving the room under any circumstances, and when I did poke my head out the door to retrieve, say, an obnoxious, plastic wrapped breakfast of cold, rubbery sausage and chewy beans, staff made me feel like a leper by standing 15 feet back with a concerned look on their faces.
But as the week progressed, it became less tedious. By day four it was manageable. Day six was comfortable, and by day seven, release day, I was actually enjoying my seclusion and not having to face the annoying, other-people realities of the outside world. Stockholm syndrome much?
But enough about my Hong Kong quarantine return. Here are this week’s calls for pitches. Happy pitching.
