50 calls for journalism/writing pitches (April 29, 2024)
For the past few months I have been watching a pair of seagulls build a nest on a rooftop just outside the window above my desk. I’ve watched the nest grow like a neglected hairstyle, twigs poking out and up, I’ve watched the pair return after a morning presumably at sea, I’ve watched the carnal moments in the run up to spring, and I’ve felt the emptiness when they are delayed and other gulls come to peer sideways at their lair. We don’t have a due date yet, and there will be no gender-reveal shenanigans, but the anticipation is mounting.
