50 calls for journalism/writing pitches (November 14, 2022)
I just discovered that this intro I am writing right now already exists, created in 2015 by a computer programmer. He also ‘wrote’ every article I have written since 2015 before I wrote it, and has already written everything I will ever write in my lifetime. Every tweet, every email. Every. Damn. Thing. Including every typo. Including everything I never make public. Everything that is, that is 3,200 characters or fewer. Even more astonishing for you, is that he has written everything you have written too, and will write at any time in the future. Jonathan Basile’s Library of Babel is a real-life manifestation of the imaginary library of the same name, conjured by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. Borges’ library contains every book that ever has been and every book that ever could be written. Basile’s 21st-century version contains every combination of letters, full stops and spaces that is possible, up to a limit of 3,200 characters. It evokes some crazy thoughts, doesn’t it? Who is plagiarising whom? If everything I am going to write has already been written, why do I bother? What kind of brain-fuckery is this??!! His website contains about 10 to the power of 4677 books, which is way more than there are atoms in the universe. Search for something you think only you can write here: https://libraryofbabel.info/search.html

Matthew Barker at Horizon Guides asked if I could help him find a couple of writers for a client of his. See below, and contact him at matthew@horizonguides.com.
+ Marketing copywriter Seeking a copywriter to create company & branding copy for a new travel website; will include 'About Us,' 'Why Book With Us,' and similar pages. Ideally looking for someone with tourism experience but any good marketing copywriters are invited to get in touch. Rates are flexible based on expertise/background, likely around USD $150 per page.
+ Galapagos expert Seeking a writer with some Galapagos experience to assist with some guide-style content on the Galapagos islands; key experiences, profiles of cruise operators, ships, etc. Nuts & bolts guidebook-style writing, not first person narrative. $0.30 per word.
Unfortunately I only had time to find around 30 calls for pitches this week, but will make up for it next week.
