75+ calls for journalism/writing pitches (November 25, 2024)
I was going to wait till the New Year to ramp these bulletins up to 75 calls per week, but perhaps due to last week’s snow putting me in a vacation-y mood I’ve done it already. 75 calls coming at you from now on each week (if you’re a paid sub).

Finally, and most importantly, I must tell you about how I burned my fingers. Storm Bert (a shoe-in for Best Named Storm of 2024 surely) came with all the snow and wind and chapped lips of an arctic monsoon, so naturally I filled the log burner to the brim, more than it had ever been filled before. With the kind of heat that could boil bone blasting into the living room, I grew curious to how hot the burner really was. Naturally, I touched it. Naturally, I screamed, and for the past week have had to learn to use my pinky and ring finger for things that required finger-y stuff. It’s gratifying to see how quickly you can learn to adapt, but more gratifying when your skin regrows, the pain subsides and you can use cutlery or brush your teeth without inspiring pitiful glances.
